work in progress

I decided to do a set inspired in my great aunts kitchen. I have no photos to show but I will post some sketches soon. The main itens will be a kitchen balcony, a table with few chairs, a fireplace with a "wooden sofa" and a staircase (the main challenge). The overall atmosphere will be "old and empty". The set will include a small window in a high position in one of the walls and 2 doors (the kitchen door and one at the top of the stairs), which probably don't need to be movable.

research on stop-motion and sets

Some things to think about after doing research...

stop-motion
- hand drawn
- claymation
- sand animation
- cutout animation
- pixilation

planning the set
- what is the set for?
- with/without characters?
- indoor/outdoor?
- scale
- materials
- tools
- removable walls?
- pins/magnets to hold the characters?

creative decisions
- realistic +/-
- color
- mood
- materials

Here is some online research:

Some nice playfull sets and an example of an outdoor set.

An example of a simple set, just floor and background. In the blog, the process of making this and other sets, props and characters is described. Useful tips.

A different approach to the "classic claymation", uses the clay stylistic properties. Full animation here.

animation module

I needed to create a blog for the Animation module so I decided to bring this one back to life! I will post my progress, things I find a long the way, and pages from my sketchbook.
